Where we go wrong about our opinions
The very fact that most of the thoughts we have on day to day basis are mere opinions is enough to make us realize that our opinions do play a role in us identifying ourselves as a being. So, when you are questioned on or someone challenges your opinions it does attack our whole existence and that is why we feel attacked.
Humans are in a way assholes. I mean, we do identify ourselves and give so much meaning to the stuff which doesn’t even have any value or just some of it. We go even further than this, we see these opinions as a part of us, we fight for them as if it matters so much that our life is at stake, and over time we do build extreme tendencies which are sometimes beyond redemption. I’ve seen a lot of people go to wars, metaphorically for their favorite celebrity or football club which is in fact in a way a bit narcissistic. Why would you do that for someone who doesn’t even know that you exist. We tend to absorb overtime the ideas of people we follow and these people do have a different life experience, culturally, socially, economically etc. Not everything they say has to resonate with you, or we can say you don’t have to subscribe to everything they say or every idea they propose.
On that note, walk a line of balance, live in acceptance and try and be as far as possible from ignorance, though part of the acceptance is accepting your ignorance as well. Because, Ignorance is in fact inherently human. But, the way I see it, even if you want someone to listen to you and actually try to understand your point of view even if it is contradictory, you’ve to be patient and first let them feel that you would listen as well. It about discussion and not arguments and debates. It’s about understanding and in that way you can actually get to know how people think and better understand the world around you for yourself rather than trying to impose your ideas without enough experience and thoughtfulness.
